Workhorse Pattern Test

I got to test the Hazel Pattern for Workhorse Patterns!  It's so awesome.

I actually made the wide leg version first, but I LOVE the skinny version so much - we'll start there.  I went with my hip measurement, and I made a 6.  I shortened the front rise a little less than an inch.  The hips fit perfectly.  I ended up not taking in the waist and it's a bit lose but fine by me.  They are very high waisted pants, and they are a little too high waisted for me, so I sewed the waisband with a 1" seam allowance.  I took 2.5 inches off of the length which was perfect.  I love them so much.

The pockets are super cool because they are right in the seam on the back of the pant.  It seems weird to say, but I really liked all of the pieces.  There are like 4 seams in each leg instead of 2.  The yokes are cool too.  On the red pair I cut my yokes on the bias, but it is hard to see.  After the adjustments, the pants came together fairly quickly.  I realize I was pattern testing at the time, but I think it only took me a couple days of working off and on.  I did make a muslin to start, so that helped cut down the time of the actual pants.  For the red version, I used stretch suiting that I got online.  I have to say - it's glorious.

For the wide leg, culotte version, I used board short fabric from The Fabric Fairy which was also a great choice.  I have not worked with board short fabric before, so it was a little weird to start.  It kinda behaves like knit but not really.  Yeah.  That's right.  When I wear this pair, they feel super light, and the breeze just flows through which is awesome for summer.  I shortened these as well, but only by 2".

The pattern includes lots of tips and fitting instructions which is very helpful.  I don't normally do any fitting; I just make stuff and hope for the best.  LOL. I don't suggest it  So I really needed the fitting information.

Workhorse is selling it as a bundle - you get wide leg, skinny leg, and skirt.  I suggest you buy the bundle.  When I went to test, I knew I would make wide and skinny, and I also knew I wouldn't like the skinny.   AAAAANNNDDD I was wrong.  I love the skinny.  I haven't made the skirt yet.  Hopefully there will be time in August for that.

Questions?

I am currently reading too many books at one time.  I've GOT to stop doing this.  Here are two that I am working on.

I am listening to Trejo by Danny Trejo it is fantastic - highly recommend.

I just started reading Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam. I am only in a few pages.  So far, it's already tugging my heart and making me do some reflecting.

The new playlist is close to being done.  I'll have it ready by the 1st.  Here is the link: August 2021 Sewing Playlist

I am working on a back to school shirt and I've been listening mostly to Chris Cresswell.  So that's what I'll add today.  This one is visually beautiful.  By the way, have you ever heard that man whistle?  It's seriously the coolest thing.
