Pride Bag Tute

A friend of mine is moving out of state.  As usual, when I get emotional, I sew.  I made him a bag.

I figured I'd type up a quick tutorial because I took a super simple bag and made it pretty.  I used Mister Domestic's fabric line from Paintbrush Studios.  I bought a fat quarter pack when it was released, and I suppose I always figured I'd make a bag.  I made it a little different on each side.  Above is the Love is Love side.  I used this super simple grocery bag tutorial.  My brain had to do math as I wanted to use multiple prints.  I started and ended with the red brick.  I figured if I screwed that up it was ok.  No fussy cutting needed.  I really wanted to showcase the Love is Love fabric, so I started with that.  The bag itself is only 2 pieces 18" x 36" plus handles.  Instead of cutting one outer of 18" x 36", I pieced mine.  Here is my breakdown:

Bricks - 2" x 14.5"

Love is Love - 5.5" x 14.5"

LGBTQIA+ - 2.5" x 14.5"

Hands - 4" x 14.5"

Symbols - 2" x 14.5"

This is the same for each piece, but at the bottom of ONE piece I used 4.5" x 14.5" of Bricks.

In addition to these 2 pieces, I added vertical pieces of the pronoun fabric.  I had to cut it appropriatly to show off the fabric.  These pieces are 2.5" wide and long enough to go on both sides.  One side is LONGER than the other because of the bricks.  You will need 4 pieces of this - one on each side.

I also pieced the lining, but that was simple.  I just sewed 2 fat quarters together on the 18" side, then cut that piece to 18" x 36".  Also, I used webbing instead of making handles.  Other than that I mostly followed the tutorial.  :)

This side is my favorite because it says "Love Has No Gender".

Now, some of you might come down on my math.  It's a bag - math simply changes the shape a bit.  I'm not worried about my math.

Some of you might say "It's not straight!" about my pieces.  My brain said this too, but then I was immediatly reminded of high school.  Whenever we were driving and someone said "go straight at the light" someone else ALWAYS said - "Always forward never straight".  So I'm using this logic here.  I'm not worried about anything being straight.  Also, in speaking to some friends, apparently not everyone used this logic when driving in high school.  Weird.  Most of us in the car were not LGBTQIA+, but we all yelled "Always forward never straight!." Obvi.

I know it's June, it's Pride Month, but please remember to love your LGBTQIA+ friends and family year round especially during such a shitty time in our country.  Don't forget to VOTE to protect not destroy.

Paper Book - Only A Monster by Vanessa Len - I put this one down for a while but picked  it up the other day again.  I really like it.

EBook - Raised in Fire by K.F. Breene - Escapism (book 2 of a series)

Listening to - King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo - I don't know what to make of this one yet.

As for music, it seems appropriate to leave you with some Alice Bag (I've probably posted this one before, but it is worth another listen).
