Pattern Tests!

I have been testing patterns these last few weeks, so here we go!

First up - Studio Shirt by Workhorse Patterns.  I made 2 of these.  This first one is 100% hemp (from Hemp Traders).  It was easy to work with and kinda stretchy which was actually nice.  It was white when I got it, so I stuffed it in a coffee bath hoping to make it darker.  It turned ivory.  It's pretty but not brown.  I wanted brown.

The shirt went together rather quickly.  I made Version 2.  The collar and collar stand took me the longest.  Instructions were clear, and the fit is spot on.  I made a zero and took off 3" because I am short, and it is perfect.  I bought some coffee buttons from Textile Garden, and they look beautifully dark on my coffee dyed shirt.

The second one I made, I grabbed some fabric from my stash that my daughter bought me so long ago that she doesn't remember buying it.  Geez, I've got to get better about using what I have.  It's a border print, and I tried to skillfully cut it to look good.  I think it's ok.  This is quilting cotton, and again, it went together simple and smooth.  I used the selvage from the fabric to finish the sleeves instead of hemming them.

Right after this test, I got to test the Yarn Love quilt block from Happy Sew Lucky.  This Foundation Paper Piecing block releases this Thursday.  It was super calm and easy to put together.  Perfect for listening to a book and sewing.  I chose to use sparkly black and black because...black.

I feel so lucky to have gotten to test 2 amazing patterns.  I lost my sewjo there for a bit, but I feel so much better after doing these 2.

The May Sewing Playlist has been just what I needed this month.  From Queen Latifah to The Weather Girls it's been great to sew with.
